EXStar Hub 2.0 is now available, introducing new ways to clean up scan data earlier, move through post-processing with less repetition, and create more visually rich 3D content.

The release also introduces EXStar Mobile, extending the EINSTAR 3D scanning workflow to supported Android devices, with iOS support for iPhone and iPad coming soon. Together, these updates make it easier to capture, process, and continue a project across desktop and mobile devices.

The Release at a Glance

Update What's New Why It Matters
Real-Time AI Isolation AI identifies the intended object during supported IR scanning workflows and filters unwanted areas such as background, turntables, or fingers. Less unwanted data to remove after scanning.
3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) Combines image data with scan-derived geometry to guide AI-powered reconstruction. Creates visually richer digital content while retaining the object's shape and proportions.
Super Hybrid Alignment Brings feature- and marker-based tracking together more flexibly, including expanded marker-free laser scanning options. Gives users more alignment choices for different objects and scan conditions.
Saved Mesh Generated mesh data can be saved within the project. Switch between Scan and Post-Processing without regenerating the mesh each time.
Algorithm Optimization Mesh-generation calculations are processed in batches to reduce peak memory use. Improves stability for complex or continuously processed datasets.
Faster Capture Wireless IR scanning without texture increases from 20 FPS to 30 FPS. Laser Feature scanning also increases from 20 FPS to 30 FPS. Provides smoother, more efficient capture in supported modes.
Wireless Calibration Calibration can now be completed wirelessly without switching the scanner back to a wired connection. Keeps the setup process simpler when working wirelessly.

IR Texture scanning remains largely unchanged in this release. As with previous workflows, wireless scanning may have a slightly smaller field of view than wired scanning at the same working distance because of image cropping.

Cleaner Capture, More Usable Data

Real-Time AI Isolation is designed to reduce a familiar source of cleanup work: scan data that includes more than the object itself.

When enabled before scanning begins, or while a scan is paused, the feature uses a texture-camera view to identify the target near the center of the frame. Users can refine the selection by marking areas to keep or remove. The texture camera supports object selection only and does not affect texture acquisition.

EXStar Hub 2.0 Real time AI isolation

This gives users a more practical way to capture small and medium objects in normal working environments without needing a perfectly clear background every time.

Real-Time AI Isolation is currently available on supported Windows systems with an NVIDIA RTX 3060 or higher GPU. The macOS version remains in development.

3DGS and Saved Mesh: Two Ways to Work with Scan Data

EXStar Hub 2.0 adds two updates that support different parts of the workflow. 3DGS gives scanned objects a more visually detailed way to be presented, while Saved Mesh makes conventional mesh-based work easier to resume.

3DGS: Bring Scanned Objects to Life

3D Gaussian Splatting, or 3DGS, combines image data with scan-derived geometry to guide AI-powered reconstruction. This helps the result stay closer to the object's real shape and proportions while preserving richer visual details such as color, texture, and surface appearance.

3DGS is well suited to product presentation, creative assets, visual archives, and other projects where realism matters. It does not replace a conventional mesh for editing, measurement, or manufacturing, but it gives users another way to present scanned objects when visual fidelity is the priority.

Saved Mesh: Pick Up Where You Left Off

For mesh editing, measurement, and manufacturing workflows, mesh data remains essential. EXStar Hub 2.0 now saves one generated or imported mesh within each project, so users can return to Post-Processing without rebuilding the mesh from scratch.

This makes it easier to pause a project, switch between scanning and processing, or continue cleanup later. Each project stores one mesh; importing a new external mesh replaces the existing saved mesh.

A Smoother Capture-to-Mesh Workflow

Beyond AI Isolation, 3DGS, and Saved Mesh, EXStar Hub 2.0 also improves several everyday parts of the scanning workflow.

Super Hybrid Alignment gives users more flexibility when an object does not track reliably through a single method alone. By combining feature- and marker-based information more effectively, it expands the range of laser-scanning situations where users can work with fewer markers.

Faster capture makes supported workflows feel more responsive. Wireless IR scanning without texture now increases from 20 FPS to 30 FPS, while Laser Feature scanning also increases from 20 FPS to 30 FPS. IR Texture scanning remains largely unchanged.

At the same working distance, wireless scanning may have a slightly smaller field of view than wired scanning because of image cropping.

Algorithm Optimization improves mesh-generation stability by processing calculations in batches. This reduces peak memory use and helps the software handle complex or continuously processed datasets more reliably.

Wireless Calibration removes an unnecessary interruption from setup. Compatible scanners can now be calibrated wirelessly, without switching back to a wired connection first.

EXStar Mobile: Extend the Workflow Beyond the Desktop

EXStar Mobile is the companion 3D scan app for EINSTAR Rockit and EINSTAR 2. It supports compatible Android phones and tablets, iPhones, and iPads, giving users a more mobile way to manage scanning projects.

Users can connect through the scanner's built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, pair with a QR code, and reconnect quickly to the last scanner used. Both wired and wireless calibration are supported.

EXStar Mobile App

The app includes:

  • Laser alignment modes: Marker, Feature, and Global Markers
  • IR alignment modes: Marker, Feature, Hybrid, Texture, and Global Markers
  • Small and Medium-to-Large object options for laser scanning
  • Pause, resume, and exit controls during capture
  • Rectangle selection, lasso selection, deselection, inverse selection, deletion, and model rotation for basic cleanup
  • On-device mesh generation and 3DGS creation
  • Local OBJ, PLY, and STL export
  • Cloud upload for viewing, downloading, and sharing completed models or 3DGS results

When a project needs more desktop processing, point clouds and meshes can be transferred from EXStar Mobile to EXStar Hub. EXStar Hub 2.0 also remembers the most recently connected mobile device, helping users reconnect faster in later sessions.

Availability

EXStar Hub 2.0 is available now for compatible EINSTAR workflows. From cleaner capture and more flexible alignment to mobile editing and visual 3D content creation, the update gives users more control at every stage of the scanning process.
